Policy and Standards

The primary policy for Telecommunications is the Telecommunications Act.

Other relevant legislation and standards include the Radiocommunications Act 1989 and the Radiocommunications Regulations 2001 which deals with the mandatory requirements for electrical, electronic and radio products. The Commerce Act promotes competition in markets wihin New Zealand. The Fair Trading Act, Consumer Guarantees Act and Sale of Goods Act deals with protecting the New Zealand Consumer when purchasing goods in New Zealand. The Electrical Standards www.standards.co.nz and www.eeca.govt.nz details the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for External Power Supplies.
